I have always wanted to visit Lagos, Nigeria because it has a reputation for being a bustling, dynamic city with a lot of good energy and a big film scene. However, several people have warned me against visiting there because they believe it is not safe. Is that true? Are there some areas that are safer than others for a U.S. tourist? Do I need to hire a local guide? Or is it too dangerous all around?
It's only December and winter is already killing me. Where can I fly that a) is cheap and b) will give me 3-4 days of warm weather and c) I won't get kidnapped? So far I'm considering Puerto Rico and Mexico City. Any other destinations that I should look at?
