I heard about this first with VideoGamer. Apparently their recent review of a new game (RE9) was scraped and the "author" is not a real person. When you do a bit more digging, you find that websites are being bought out that have good traffic and everyone is being fired. They are then replaced with fake authors that are just AI generated. I remember seeing something about GQ doing this a few years ago and then trying to hide it.
I think this has likely spread outside of gaming and niche magazine sites. I am sure this is happening on mainstream news outlet sites too and I think it is a problem people need to pay attention to.


Even before AI came around, a lot of the Buzzfeed-type sites turned out tons of super low-quality content. Just total formulaic garbage. It's hard to see how AI could do any worse than they were already doing.
